Set up your wallet while you can still receive messages from your bank. Then check any error at the account, card or merchant level before trying a different way to pay.
What to have ready
- Your own phone, with access to the number you will use to register.
- Your passport for identity checks if the app requests it.
- A bank card in your name and access to your bank’s verification method.
- Your bank’s support contact and a backup payment option.
Use the official app listing in your device’s app store. Avoid wallet downloads or “activation services” sent by strangers.
Follow the setup in the app
The Ministry of Commerce’s visitor guide describes registration with an overseas or Chinese phone number, followed by card binding. Issuer checks, accepted cards, charges and limits depend on the payment product.
- Register using the country code that belongs to your phone number.
- Choose the language you can read comfortably.
- Enter your own details exactly as requested and complete identity checks inside the app.
- Add your card, then complete the bank’s verification challenge.
- Read the current fee notice before making a payment.
Menu names change. Follow the live app’s instructions if a screenshot elsewhere uses older wording.
Find the part that failed
| What you see | What to check next |
|---|---|
| No verification message | Country code, active SIM, reception and the bank’s registered number. |
| Card will not link | Card details, issuer approval and the wallet’s supported-card information. |
| Card linked; purchase declined | The transaction status, bank decline message and merchant’s accepted payment methods. |
| Booking asks for another phone number or ID | The booking service’s requirements. Wallet registration and that service’s registration are different steps. |
Do not confuse purchases with transfers
Being able to buy something does not tell you whether your account can transfer money, top up a balance or use every service inside the app. Check the rule shown for the specific action.
At a counter, settle the bill using an accepted backup if you cannot quickly resolve the issue. Later, contact the wallet or bank with the error and transaction reference; never send an unredacted card photo to a stranger.
