A school village, not an open-air theme park
The area is closely associated with the educator and philanthropist Tan Kah Kee, known in Mandarin as Chen Jiageng (陈嘉庚). Fujian’s heritage account connects the school village with his former home and other cultural landmarks. Cultural background.
The district’s heritage register identifies early school buildings and the Dragon Boat Pool. Their protected status does not mean every interior or school entrance is open to visitors. Enjoy views from public space and respect the working schools.

Use the pool as your anchor
- Arrive at Jimei School Village. Get your bearings before walking towards the Dragon Boat Pool, 龙舟池.
- Follow the public waterside paths. Pause for views of the school buildings rather than trying to enter their grounds.
- Choose one history stop. If you want an interior visit, check the current arrangements for the relevant Tan Kah Kee memorial site or museum before adding it.
- Finish with a break in the neighbourhood. Leave enough time for the journey back to your hotel or station.
We suggest a selective out-and-back rather than a promise that every heritage site can be visited in one loop. The illustrated Jimei account helps explain why it rewards closer looking, while the practical schedule remains your choice.
Give the cross-city journey its own time
Metro Line 1 serves Jimei School Village station, as described in Xiamen Daily’s station report. Check a live route and current operating times before departure. If taking a taxi, use the Dragon Boat Pool card for the waterside area and confirm the drop-off point.
Jimei is not the same place as Xiamen North railway station. Even if both appear in your plans, allow a separate journey and a generous boarding margin. Avoid turning a sightseeing estimate into a last-minute connection.
What to confirm on the day
The public neighbourhood, school grounds, memorial sites and museums have different access arrangements. We have not verified a single combined admission ticket or current opening schedule for all interiors. If history is the main reason for your visit, confirm your chosen venue first.
Do not expect a dragon-boat race every day: an event needs its own dated announcement. For an ordinary visit, the pool and architecture are enough to structure the walk. Carry water, ask before photographing students and give school entrances plenty of space.
